About the event
Ottawa Celebrates Conflict Resolution Day 2025
“Conflict Resolution Day reminds us that strong communities are built not by avoiding conflict, but by learning to face it with respect and creativity. Ottawa has been a leader in this work for decades, and this proclamation renews that commitment.” – Councillor Theresa Kavanagh
On September 14, 2025, the City of Ottawa takes a public stand for peace with the official Proclamation of Conflict Resolution Day, signed by Mayor Mark Sutcliffe.
Conflict Resolution Day has deep roots in Ottawa. In 1988, twelve mayors and the Regional Chair signed the city’s first proclamation, renewing it again in 2015. This year, the proclamation aligns with the 80th anniversary of the UN Charter and the global call for peace, justice, and strong institutions.
