Join Community Conflict Resolution Ottawa (CCRO) for an immersive 21-hour Community Mediation Training designed to equip you with practical conflict resolution skills and a deep understanding of community-based mediation. Learn from seasoned practitioners, CCRO volunteers and coaches through interactive exercises, role-play, and a social justice and trauma-informed lens to better serve your community. Dates: • Friday Oct 3rd – 9 am to 4 pm • Saturday Oct 4th – 10 am to 5 pm • Sunday Oct 5th – 10 am – 5 pm In-person at CICR-CCRO Room L213 at Saint Paul University, 223 Main St, Ottawa This training is relevant for: • Conflict resolution practitioners, mediators, and conflict coaches who want to learn the community mediation approach • Nonprofit sector and community organization staff who would like to enhance their conflict resolution awareness and skills to support better how they serve their communities • Government, nonprofit, and private sector staff interested in expanding their conflict resolution skills. The qualities of community mediators are useful to everyone! Curiosity ~ active listening ~ authenticity ~ capacity to model self-care ~ willingness to practice with a social justice lens ~ compassion and capacity to be with people as they are. CCRO’s Community Mediation Training follows the standards set by the Ontario Community Mediation Coalition (OCMC). Participants will learn about and practice: • The importance of a client and community focus • What it means to offer a trauma-informed / responsive service • How to work with positions, interests, and biases in community mediation • Communication skills – focusing on open-ended questions • Restating and reflecting – in-depth exercises on restating and reflecting • Problem-solving – the role of the community mediators in supporting parties to co-create solutions together • Power differentials – deconstruct power, privilege, and imbalances – including the mediators! - Costs: Supporting Fee $550 Sustaining Fee $440 (Active Volunteers, Students, Nonprofits & Unemployed) - Materials: Participants will receive a Community Mediation Manual, including handouts. People who complete the CCRO Community Mediation training are welcome to join the CCRO volunteer community, participate in our monthly Community of Practice sessions, and be assessed in their skills by their peers.
