The Canadian Institute for Conflict Resolution (CICR) included a similar question on an end-of-training evaluation completed by trainees we trained in Rwanda, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Indonesia. Every trainee indicated that the training was totally relevant to their culture.
We do however ensure as much as possible that the training is delivered by a trainer who is a national from the country that can deliver the training in the local language and who understands local customs and nuances. This may require up-front work to provide a train-the-trainer program to either Canadian Diaspora from the country or to in-country potential trainers.
The CICR training is a blend of best of classical North American conflict resolution approaches and those from aboriginal and Asian traditions, enabling it to be more ‘in-tune’ with a broad range of cultures.
